THE BREAKAWAY:

Freedom From False Dependencies

Every new season begins with a decision.

Every divine assignment begins with a separation.

And every move of God begins with a breakaway.

As we enter Week 1 of our Holy Independence journey, we’re confronting one of the most overlooked barriers to spiritual progress: false dependencies. These are the internal and external attachments that quietly compete with your obedience. They are subtle, familiar, and often disguised as loyalty, humility, or even wisdom. But in reality, they are the invisible chains that keep you from stepping fully into who God called you to be.

This week is not about rebellion. It’s not about cutting people off. It’s not about becoming isolated or self‑sufficient.

This week is about readiness.

Because freedom is not rebellion—freedom is preparation.

THE CORE REVELATION

Holy Independence begins when you break free from the internal and external dependencies that keep you from obeying God.

Before God releases you into purpose, He releases you from what has been holding you. And often, the things holding us aren’t physical—they’re emotional, relational, and spiritual.

WHAT WE’RE LEARNING THIS WEEK

1. What Holy Independence Is and Is Not

Holy Independence is not an excuse to disconnect from accountability. It is the courage to disconnect from bondage. It is not anti‑people; it is anti‑control. It is not rebellion; it is alignment with God’s voice above every other voice.

2. The Difference Between Bondage and Belonging

Bondage drains identity.

Belonging strengthens it.

Bondage demands performance.

Belonging invites authenticity.

One keeps you small.

The other makes you strong.

3. How Approval Addiction Forms

Approval addiction is subtle. It forms when affirmation becomes oxygen. When “Do they like me?” becomes more important than “Is God pleased?” When your identity becomes dependent on someone else’s reaction instead of God’s revelation.

4. The Spiritual Cost of People‑Pleasing

People‑pleasing is expensive.

It costs clarity.

It costs courage.

It costs calling.

You cannot fully obey God while negotiating your obedience with people.

5. Why God Breaks Dependencies Before He Releases Assignments

Before God sends you, He separates you.

Before He elevates you, He untangles you.

Before He trusts you with influence, He frees you from internal captivity.

God will not allow your destiny to be held hostage by your dependencies.

6. Identifying Emotional, Spiritual, and Relational Entanglements

Some entanglements look like loyalty.

Some feel like comfort.

Some sound like wisdom.

But anything that competes with obedience is a dependency that must be broken.

7. Freedom as a Prerequisite for Obedience

Freedom is not optional.

Freedom is foundational.

Freedom is the environment where obedience becomes possible.

You cannot carry a divine assignment with entangled hands.

SCRIPTURE FOCUS

• Galatians 5:1 — Stand firm in the freedom Christ gave you.

• Jeremiah 1:5–10 — God calls identity before assignment.

• Acts 5:29 — Obedience to God over the approval of people.

• Psalm 118:8 — Confidence in God over confidence in man.

These passages remind us that freedom is not a suggestion—it is a command.

ACTIVATION FOR THE WEEK

This journey is not just about learning—it’s about transformation.

This week, take these steps:

• Identify three dependencies you must break.

• Write a freedom confession for each one.

• Pray for courage to detach without bitterness.

And as you do, speak this over yourself:

Declaration:

“I am free from every dependency that competes with my destiny.”

And don’t forget your participation cue:

Participation Cue:

“Tell someone: I’m breaking free so I can move forward.”

LEADER’S NOTE

This week sets the tone for the entire series.

Freedom is not rebellion.

Freedom is readiness.

Freedom is the doorway to destiny—and this is your moment to walk through it.
